Mother Tongue — Piemonte DOC Rosato (13% ABV)

The voice that begins it all. Crafted from Nebbiolo and Freisa, grown in Pino d’Asti, this rosé honors the matriarchs among us, who lead our communities with strength, wisdom and care, reminding us that wine, like the earth, connects us through what grows, endures and begins again.

Mother Tongue speaks to inheritance — the shared language of land, lineage, and memory. It reflects the spirit of Zambelli Wines: expressive, grounded and shaped by connection.

  • Our Mother Tongue wine is a Piemonte DOC Rosato.

Grown in Pino d’Asti for Villa Zambelli SSA, Mother Tongue is a blend of Nebbiolo (70%) and Freisa (30%) grapes, from the 2025 vintage.

  • Grown in Pino d’Asti at 412 m above sea level on calcareous tuff with clay threaded with pebbles and sandy fossil beds left by an ancient sea.

    • We implement low environmental impact farming practices, have permanent grass cover, do not use herbicides, and use organic manure returned to the soil.

    • Vines are Guyot or spurred cordon trained; plantings date from 1990–1995.

    • All farming is done by hand, under the guidance of Piero Olivero.

  • The 2025 harvest in Pino d’Asti brought ideal growing conditions — a cool, even spring, warm but moderate summer, and a balanced autumn that preserved freshness and aromatics.

  • Gently pressed and fermented spontaneously with native yeast in stainless steel for six months.

  • Our Mother Tongue Rose is bright, with notes of wild strawberry, rose petals and a saline finish.

It pairs well with antipasti, seafood, salami and bare feet on the grass.
